Dear Sir / Madam, 

I am writing to complain about the habit of throwing unsold food away that your supermarket has. 

With all due respect, there are many people that are having a very hard time and the food that you waste could be necessary for them. I accept that some of that food has passed the expiration date and the law forbids you to sell it. But, of course, it doesn't mean it can't be eaten!

I can assure you that a lot of people share my feelings and people without ressources would be very greatful if you could reconsider this and start giving the food to charities.

Dear Sir / Madam, 

We are writing to complain about the sexist content of your advertisement, which has been published in your campaign in Australia this week. 

With all due respect, we still live in a misogynist society and these kind of adverts just make it worse. The fact that there is still misogynistic behaviour nowadays is something very alarming and we must do everything we can to stop it. If we want to achieve gender equality, you should cease making these disrespectful advertisements. 

Moreover, we are aware that this is not the first sexist advertisement that you release. We have found at least two other campaigns that are an offense to women. We accept that you are not able to change those adverts but we hope you can do something about the latest one and the ones that are coming, as many people share our feelings. 

We look forward to hearing from you in the near future, since this issue concernes us all.

A good person is...

A good person is someone that takes care of other people without asking for anything in return. Also I think that a good person is not racist, homophobic, male chauvinist or sexist. A good person is someone that respects others and lets everybody be free and happy, and someone that helps people when they need them to.

Who do I admire?

There are some people in this world that are always fighting to change things and speak up for the ones that can not do it, and Malala Yousafzai is one of these people. Her story is sad and hard, but also very inspiring. She was a victim in a terrorist attack committed by the Taleban when she was going home from the school where she studied. She was attacked because Taleban didn't want her to go to school because she is a woman but she chose to be brave and kept going to study.

Malala is a young women, only 18. She is from Pakistan and she is a Muslim. Her eyes and hair are dark and her skin is a little bit tanned. Anyway, I think that her physical appearance doesn't matter at all.

She is a very smart and brave woman. She fights for the right of education of every child in the world, no matter their sex, religion or nacionality. She is also very strong and determinate, as she didn't give up her fight even when she was threatened with death.

I admire everything she has done, as a feminist and as a fighter for educational rights. I admire her bravery and strenght, I don't know if I would be that brave and strong if I was in her situation. I admire her for not giving up and showing everybody that her battle wasn't over. "One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world."

Mobile phones- a blessing or a curse. Discuss

Mobile phones have broken into our lives and it seems that although before having them we could live and communicate without their help, now we couldn't make it. So, what are mobile phones? A blessing or a curse?

Some people might say they are the best thing that has ever been invented. Mobile phones allow us to get a lot of information in just one click. Moreover, we are now able to communicate very quickly with people that are far from us.

In spite of theses fantastic abilities, mobile phones have one big issue: they are addictive. Every single person you see in the street or public transport checks their mobile phones every minute or less, which means that they can not just leave it at home. Somehow we have built our lives around these little devices and now it is very difficult to go back and stop using them that much.

To sum up, mobile phones have brought a lot of good things to us but they have also taken our time and part of our freedom.

Report: Re-Read Second-hand Bookshop

Re- Read Second-hand Bookshop

The aim of this report is to show that reading doesn’t need to be as expensive as we thought. Some time ago I discovered that a second-hand bookshop in Barcelona called Re-Read, and as I love reading I went to have a look.

It was a small shop, all the walls full with bookshelves. In my opinion, it looked very beautiful, it was like a lot of stories were trapped in those shelves and you could feel it. And also the smell was very fragrant, like a mixed scent of new and old books. As a result of this, you could feel relaxed and happy.

Talking about the structure of the shop, I think it was a little bit chaotic. Each shelf had its own genre and type of books, and that’s great, but it seemed to me that it was disorganised. The books weren’t well placed, some of them were in horizontal and others in vertical positions, and some had their pages fold or broken. In spite of this, I believe it’s well worth buying books here, because they are very cheap! For instance, with just 3 euros you can get the book you’ve been one month waiting for!

To sum up, I think these kind of bookshops are very useful, especially if you can’t afford to buy new books every time, as in my case. My recommendation to them is that they should organise better the books and take more care of them.

Should students have to wear uniforms? (Júlia Fas and Laura Ávila)

Some people think that wearing uniforms at school is a good way for students to learn that everybody has the same rights and obligations. However it seems to us that this is not exactly true.

We personally think that school uniforms restrict the freedom of expression of the students. It is clear to us that self expression is something very important and that everybody should be free to express themselves.

Furthermore, it is known that most uniforms are not really beautiful. As a result of this, children do not feel comfortable with them. In addition, students usually find boring wearing the same clothes every day.

What is more, most schools make students wear uniforms for them not to wear inappropiate clothes. For example, they do not want girls to wear short skirts or trousers, or boys to wear broken trousers. On top of that we think that what you wear does not determine what you are or your way of being.

To sum up, we think that school uniforms do not let people express themselves, clothes do not define your value and also that it can result uncomfortable to wear the same clothing every day.

I’m going to talk about Florence, located in La Toscana, Italia. I went there last summer and I loved it, and I want to visit it again so bad. I’ve always liked travelling and I really wanted to go to Italy, so was kind of a dream come true. I spent one week there and although I went also to Pisa, Siena and some small villages, I’m going to talk only about Florence.

Well, I know many of you have already been there so all the monuments and places may sound familiar to you. First of all, we have the Florence Cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, with its beautiful dome and the tower. I think it’s very impressive, as it is so big and you know amazing. Then the Ponte Vecchio, with all these little shops and houses hanging above the river, it makes the city look very romantic and… there are also a lot of palaces, as the Pitti Palace or the Vecchio Palace, that nowadays are mostly museums. There is also a very beautiful church called Santa Croce and the San Lorenzo church, which is very ugly from the outside but in the inside, is very well decorated and painted. There is another palace in the Boboli Gardens, that in my opinion were very beautiful but they were not well cared for.

Then, we have the museums: the Uffizi Gallery and the Academy Gallery. The first one I think is the most known museum in Florence, it’s very big and there are a lot of masterpieces, whether sculptures or paintings, like these ones from Boticelli: The Birth of Venus and the Allegory of the Spring. At the Academy Gallery we can find one of the most famous sculptures of the art history: the David of Michelangelo.

Finally, I wanted to mention the Piazzale Michelangelo. It’s a square from which you can see a panoramic view of the city. To me, it was breath taking: we saw the sunset there and I still can’t find the words to describe how amazing it was.
